Solar energy development site

Programme

Developer Incubator

S.A.I.D. partners with emerging Independent Power Producers to co-develop, de-risk, and bring bankable energy projects to financial close across Africa and MENA.

What We Do

Incubating the Next Generation of IPPs

The S.A.I.D. Developer Incubator is a structured programme that provides early-stage Independent Power Producers with the capital, technical expertise, regulatory guidance, and institutional relationships needed to advance projects from concept through to financial close. We take an active co-development role — not a passive advisory one.

What We Provide

Programme Support Areas

01

Capital Access

Early-Stage Development Finance

We deploy or facilitate development capital to cover feasibility studies, environmental assessments, grid connection applications, and legal structuring — removing the funding barrier that stalls most early-stage IPPs.

02

Technical Support

Engineering & Project Development

Our in-house technical team and specialist partners support site assessment, technology selection, yield analysis, and grid interconnection studies to ensure projects are technically bankable from the outset.

03

Regulatory Navigation

Licensing, Permitting & Procurement

We guide IPP partners through national energy procurement frameworks — including REIPPP, ESIA processes, and utility negotiations — leveraging our established relationships with regulators and offtakers.

04

Structuring

Bankable Project Structuring

S.A.I.D. works alongside legal and financial advisors to structure projects that satisfy DFI, commercial bank, and institutional investor requirements, maximising the probability of reaching financial close.

05

Market Access

Offtaker & Investor Relationships

Through our network of utilities, C&I offtakers, development finance institutions, and equity partners, we open doors that independent developers would otherwise spend years building.

Eligibility

Who We Work With

We seek IPP partners who bring local knowledge, site control, or community relationships — and who are committed to building long-term, sustainable energy businesses.

01

Early to Mid-Stage Projects

Projects at pre-feasibility through to ready-to-build stage across solar PV, wind, storage, and hybrid technologies.

02

Africa & MENA Focus

Developers operating in our core geographies: Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, and the broader MENA region.

03

Local Developer Credentials

Teams with demonstrable local market knowledge, community relationships, or site control that institutional players cannot easily replicate.

04

Commitment to Bankability

Developers who are willing to adopt institutional-grade governance, reporting, and structuring standards as a condition of the partnership.

How It Works

The Incubation Journey

01

Initial Assessment

We review the project concept, site, technology, and developer credentials to determine fit with the programme.

02

Co-Development Agreement

A formal co-development agreement is executed, defining roles, capital contributions, equity participation, and milestones.

03

Development Phase

S.A.I.D. deploys capital and technical resources alongside the IPP to advance the project through feasibility, permitting, and procurement.

04

Financial Close & Beyond

We support the project through financial close and, where appropriate, remain as a long-term equity partner in the operating asset.
